The device which is used for displaying information or result on the screen (Soft Copy) or paper (Hard Copy) in the system is called Output Device.
The data that we can only see and cannot touch is known as Soft Copy. The data or copy on a printed paper that we can touch and feel is known as Hard Copy.
-
Types of Output Device:-
- V.D.U (Visual Display Unit)
- Speaker
- Printer
-
Visual Display Unit:-
We cannot think a computer without any V.D.U. it is the most important components of the computer. It also called the Monitor.
V.D.U is mainly divided into 4 categories:-
-
CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) :-
It is big in size that is not portable. Its picture quality is very high, so it consumers more electricity. It’s price cheaper than TFT, LCD and LED.
-
TFT (Thin Film Transistor) :-
Its picture quality is poor as compare to CRT monitor. It consumes low electricity than CRT monitors and its price is little higher than CRT.
-
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) :-
Its picture quality is poorer than both the above VDU. It consumes very low electricity. Its price is too high. Its reflex less light to the user’s eye.
-
LED (Light Emitting Diodes) :-
Its picture quality is so much for as then all above VDU. It consumes very low electricity than other monitors. Its price is little low than LCD. It is also reflex less light to eye.
-
Speaker :-
Speaker is an audio output device of a computer that produces music, speech or other sounds, such as beeps.
-
Printer :-
An output device that produces Text and Graphics in a Physical medium such as a paper is called Printer. Printed information, which exists physically, is called Hard Copy. After creating a document on the computer, we can send it to the printer for printing its hard copy which is generally called a Printout. The speed of a printer is rated either by pages per minute (PPM) or by characters per second (CPM).
Printers are available in two models color: – one is Black & White and another is Color. Color printers are slower and more expensive than Black & White printers.
Printer is divided into two categories: –
- Impact Printer
- Non-Impact Printer
-
Impact Printer:-
It is used to produces printed copy of a document. It prints the text in Matrix form with the help of Dots. It can print 10-15 character per second. It is generally used in Banks or Office to produced Bills, Reports etc. the Impact printers print the characters by striking them on the ribbon which is then pressed on the paper.
The example of Impact Printer is:-
- Dot-Matrix Printer
- Line Printer
-
Non-Impact Printer:-
It is used to print the documents with high quality. It generally used a laser light to print. It produces 30-100 printed copy per minute. It is costly them Impact printer. These printers’ prints a complete page at a time so they are also called as page printers.
The example of Non-Impact printer is:-
- Ink-Jet Printer
- Laser Printer.
